Why Group Learning Classes Results is Better than 1:1

Online Tutoring Collaborative learning and teaching methodology trace back to ancient civilization, that too was replaced by few other learning philosophies for some time till collaborative learning got new lease of life when studies showed that student learned, retained much more when they are made partners in the teaching and learning process instead of being meagre receiver of teaching and knowledge imparting by the educators/teachers.

Teaching and learning in small groups has been the tradition and the foundation, group learning has been the culture of ancient India, with the growth of modern cities and urban sprawl in the last few centuries the method of teaching and learning has took few changes. Still somewhere during the 20th century emerging disciplines in social psychology education theory came up with new models of passive learning, however social theorist like John Dewey, Jean Piaget & Lev Vygotsky’s, based on constructivism were against the idea of passive learning while the teacher instruct. Rather they agreed that students learns best in small interacting groups under the guidance of the teacher.

The key element of learning in groups is the effect of social interaction amongst the students which challenges them, and promote active learning and abilities to use language in reference to the situation and that occurs during such interactions.

A study by British Council website, teaching English share the teachers experience of teaching in groups, like learning English in a group is much more effective than on a one-to-one basis, and this applies to other subject and topic’s too, social interaction, discussion, doubt clearing are the important aspects of learning, many a times its observed that students hesitate to ask questions, in group they gets confidence and support to clear their doubts. Research has also shown that Learning in Groups brings in more motivation and enthusiastic learning and understanding Its contributes creativity because varied personality characteristic in a group gets variety and diversified idea’s. They learn the concept of peer collaboration, how to support one another, get rid of complexes, enhance leadership qualities in self, overcome shyness and become a team player.

Furthermore, research on group learning to passive learning shows the effectiveness of collaborative learning and its advantages over passive learning in terms of : Builds-Self Esteem in the students Enhances Satisfaction with the learning experience Promotes a Positive Attitude towards the subject matter While it is true that 1:1 tutoring is more effective however, the learning gets restricted between the teacher and the student, lesser doubts gets raised, difficult to measure progress.

Empower Education through its classroom makes it easy to facilitate collaborative learning, its builds the platform for interaction, active participation, do test practise, seek doubts from the teacher, have group discussion on the doubts raised by one of the group members, form debate teams and believe in open discussion on topic and test answering.
